Elliot was at Redheugh FC on Friday night to launch Kicks for Newcastle United Foundation. Kicks is a Premier League initiative to which aims to build safer, stronger communities and help young people achieve goals through football. Kicks already takes place every Friday night at Westgate Centre for Sport in Newcastle. The new venue in Gateshead will also run on Friday evenings between 5pm and 7pm and hopes to attract hundreds of young people.
One of the main objectives of Kicks is to encourage volunteering and create routes into education, training and employment. On top of football training and competitions, young people in Gateshead can also take part in training and development activities and issue based workshops such as such as drug awareness, healthy eating, volunteering, career development and anti-weapons workshops. Another key objective is to break down barriers between police and young people to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood.
Steve Mack, Senior Project Coordinator said "We are delighted to launch Kicks in Gateshead. Working with Redheugh FC, the aim is to provide a safe environment for young people to meet and play football every week."
"Our project in Newcastle has been so successful that it is the right time to launch a new venue across the river in Gateshead."
