Bob Moncur is calling for fans to donate or lend Newcastle United memorabilia, artefacts and photographs to a major exhibition to take place on Tyneside next year.

The Toon Times exhibition will open in Newcastle's Discovery Museum in February 2014. Organised by Newcastle United Foundation in partnership with Tyne and Wear Archives & Museums, Toon Times will be an interactive and family friendly exhibition telling the story of Newcastle United from its origins in the 1880s to the present day.

The legendary skipper is personally donating his 1969 Inter Cities Fairs Cup final shirt to the exhibition and wants fans across the city and beyond to do the same.

"I am delighted that the shirt I wore in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup final will be on display at the Discovery Museum next year so that generations of fans can learn about the amazing history of this Club," he said.

"We now need fans to come forward with their own memorabilia, whether that is tickets, matchday programmes, match worn shirts or other memorable items that may have stories attached to them which will allow us to celebrate the Club's heritage."

Project Coordinator Gavin Ferry said: "Artefacts like Bob's shirt will enable us to bring history to life.

"If fans have items at home, in lofts or garages, we hope they will consider lending them to our exhibition. Sharing these treasured items with other supporters this will help us celebrate the Club's heritage from its origins to the present day."

The Foundation also wants to encourage fans to write in with their Newcastle United memories which will also form part of the exhibition.

As an added incentive the Foundation will reward four supporters (plus a guest) who come forward to share the most iconic items and memories with an invitation to the Newcastle United Foundation box for the Capital One Cup fixture against Leeds United on Wednesday 25th September. Closing date for entries is Midday on Monday 23rd September 2013.
