A team of visually impaired youngsters from the Newcastle United Foundation finished runners-up at the British Blind Sport (BBS) national football tournament in Birmingham on Saturday.
The Under-13 boys and girls' team competed at the International Futsal Arena, and while they didn't manage to retain the title they won last year, they put in an outstanding performance and were presented with runners-up medals by Sir Bobby Charlton.
There was also individual praise for seven-year-old Daniel Hayton, who was named Player of the Tournament in the 11 to 13 age group and received a new match ball along with an award.
Part of the squad was talented ten-year old Mikey Buchan, who was inducted to the Newcastle United Foundation's Hall of Fame at a star-studded event at St. James' Park in March.
Mikey's mother, Joanne Buchan, presented the team with a new playing strip for the tournament, in memory of her own mother who passed away recently, and it wasworn for the first time at the tournament.
