Newcastle United Foundation has recently entered into a new partnership with Hirst Welfare Centre, Ashington to deliver a weekly Mini Magpies Club for boys and girls aged 4-6 years old on Saturday mornings.
The indoor sessions are designed to introduce youngsters to the game in a fun, friendly and positive environment. Under the guidance of Foundation Coach Dean Critchlow, himself an ex Newcastle United trainee, the young players will learn to master the ball with both feet as well as practising the various turning and dribbling moves used by the world's top players.
As a surprise for the children, club mascots Monty and Maggie arrived to take part in the first session, showing off their own football skills to the mini magpies in attendance!
Neil Winskill, Football Development Manager said; "We have a long running and thriving relationship with Gary and his team at the Hirst Welfare Centre. This is a new programme to add to our already existing Holiday Soccer School programme and midweek Skillz Centre session at the venue. The facilities are first class and it really is a football mad area. With these things in mind we are thrilled to be able to offer a Mini Magpies Club on Saturday mornings at Hirst. We hope lots of youngsters come along to take part."
Gary Middleton, Football Development Manager at Hirst Welfare Centre said; "Many thanks to Newcastle United Foundation for opening our Saturday morning coaching programme in 2013 with the visit of Monty & Maggie. The partnership between our two organisations continues to flourish and with the help of the Foundation's professional coaching staff I am sure it will help the local youngsters have more fun and develop their skills within our programmes at the Hirst Welfare Centre. Although it was only the first week, the kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience and cannot wait for next week".
