The Scot had a hard act to follow when he took charge of United following Kevin Keegan's shock departure in 1997.

Dalglish had won the Championship with two clubs, Liverpool and Blackburn, and was seen by many as the man to finally bring a trophy to Tyneside.

He started off well, and guided United into the Champions League at the end of his first season, and he also took the team to Wembley in the FA Cup Final against Arsenal.

However things didn't go as well the next season as he sold many of Keegan's buys, and several of his signings failed to deliver the goods on a regular basis.

Kenny left the club in 1998.
