United completed the permanent signing of the Portsmouth defender for an undisclosed fee on January 28, 2010 after he had earlier joined on emergency loan on January 26.
That had enabled him to make his debut in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on January 27 in which he was voted man of the match.
Stoke born, Williamson started out at Torquay United before signing for Southampton in 2001.
Loan spells back at Torquay, Doncaster Rovers and Wycombe Wanderers followed before a permanent switch to Adams Park in 2005.
The 6ft 4ins defender spent four years at Wycombe making 107 league appearances and finding the back of the net nine times.
Watford moved to secure his services in January of 2009 but a £2m transfer to Portsmouth followed at the beginning of the current campaign.
Williamson had yet to appear for the South Coast club before his move to Tyneside.
