Snowdog Unleashed At St. James' Park

Written by Newcastle Utd

St. James' Park is one of a number of stops on the Great North Snowdog Trail this year

St. James' Park is one of a number of stops on the Great North Snowdog Trail taking place at the tail-end of 2016.

Individually designed sculptures based on Raymond Briggs' story of The Snowman and the Snowdog will pop up at various locations across the North East for the next ten weeks, leading tourists to popular attractions and inviting locals to rediscover their region.

Our very own Snowdog, designed by artist Temper, disembarked in front of the iconic Gallowgate Stand on Friday, and will be in good company for his stay on Strawberry Place between neighbouring statues of Alan Shearer, Sir Bobby Robson and Jackie Milburn.

He won't be the first four-legged visitor at St. James' Park, as many of United's games in the early 1900s were attended by a black and white great dane named Rex - the team's mascot at the time.

Temper's contribution to the trail is a striking and detailed homage to Newcastle United, decorated with memories of the Club's greatest achievements.

Visitors have until December to see the Snowdog at the stadium, after which it will be auctioned with the rest of the pack to raise funds for St. Oswald's Children's Hospice.
