Ritchie Wins Club Player Of The Month

Written by Newcastle Utd

Matt Ritchie has won the Club's Wonga Player of the Month award for August

Winger Matt Ritchie has won the Wonga Player of the Month award for August.

Organised by Club's current shirt sponsor, Wonga, the award is voted for by Newcastle United supporters - and 44 per cent opted for Ritchie ahead of teammates Dwight Gayle and Jamaal Lascelles.

Ritchie joined the Magpies from AFC Bournemouth in July and has appeared in all of the club's Sky Bet Championship fixtures so far this season, including six starts and one substitute appearance.

During August, the Scotland international started four of the club's five league games, scoring once.

Ritchie went close to finding the net on a lively debut at Fulham and, after coming on at half-time to spark the Magpies into life at home to Huddersfield, he started and scored from the spot in a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Reading at St. James' Park.

Three days later, Ritchie played the full match as Rafa Benítez's side earned a battling 1-0 win away at Bristol City, making it back-to-back Championship wins.

After sitting out the midweek EFL Cup round two tie with Cheltenham Town, he was back in the starting line-up against Brighton in the final match of the month and he laid on a superb assist for Jamaal Lascelles to open the scoring as United defeated their promotion rivals 2-0 live on Sky Sports.
