Linington To Referee Derby Match

Written by Newcastle Utd

Isle of Wight-based James Linington will travel across land and sea to referee Saturday's game against Derby

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

James Linington will referee Saturday's Sky Bet Championship fixture at Derby County (kick-off 5.30pm).

The Isle of Wight-based official, whose trip to every game includes a ferry journey, has been on the Football League list for nine seasons and refereed the League Two play-off final between Dagenham and Rotherham in 2010.

This will be the first time he has taken charge of a league match involving Newcastle United, but he was the man in the middle for an FA Cup defeat at West Brom in January 2010.

So far this term, he's refereed three games in the Championship and two in the EFL Cup. He has shown 25 yellow cards but no reds, and has awarded three penalties.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by James Wilson and Mark Russell and the fourth official will be Darren Bond.
