Loan Watch: Ivan Opens Shrews Account

Ivan Toney opened his account for Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, helping the League One side to a 3-2 victory at Oldham Athletic.

The on-loan forward stepped up to convert a 50th-minute penalty after the Latics' Charles Dunne was adjudged to have fouled Toney in the area, making it 2-0 to the Shrews.

And the 20-year-old's side earned the win thanks to Joe Riley's strike, which eventally proved to be the winner despite Oldham threatening a late fightback.

Full back Jamie Sterry made his debut for Coventry City in their 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Tony Mowbray's side went down to goals from Chris Long and Martyn Woolford, after Sterry - who played the full 90 minutes at Highbury Stadium - had managed to clear an earlier effort from David Ball off the line.

Also in League One, Sammy Ameobi came off the bench to make his Bolton Wanderers bow in their 1-1 home draw with Southend United.

Keshi Anderson's equaliser earned the Trotters, for whom Ameobi replaced James Henry with 12 minutes remaining, a point at the Macron Stadium.

Meanwhile, Haris Vuckic wasn't involved as Bradford City drew 1-1 at Millwall.

In League Two, Macaulay Gillesphey helped Carlisle United maintain their unbeaten league start to the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Accrington Stanley.

Nicky Adams' second half strike earned Keith Curle's men a point, with centre half Gillesphey playing the full 90 minutes for the Cumbrians.

Winger Alex Gilliead was an unused substitute in Luton Town's 4-1 win over Wycombe at Kenilworth Road, which came courtesy of a Danny Hylton hat-trick and one from Jordan Cook.

Another young Magpie, Tom Heardman, was on the bench for Hartlepool United as they lost 6-1 at Stevenage, but didn't make it on to the pitch for what would have been a Football League debut.

And defender Kyle Cameron was among the substitutes for Newport County this weekend, but didn't get a chance to make his bow for the Exiles as their game against Barnet was abandoned at half time due to heavy rain, with the Bees winning 1-0 at Rodney Parade. The fixture will now be replayed.

And midfielder Liam Smith missed out on Crewe Alexandra's 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers through injury.

Due to the international break, the remainder of United's players who are out on loan - Tim Krul, Siem de Jong, Henri Saivet, Florian Thauvin and Kevin Mbabu - weren't in action, while frontman Adam Armstrong featured for England Under-19s in their 2-1 friendly defeat to Brazil at Aggborough Stadium, where he missed a penalty. The Selecao also came out victorious in a penalty shoot-out after full-time, winning 3-2.
