Mehdi Abeid, the former Newcastle midfielder, has signed for French side Dijon FCO.

The 24-year-old Algeria international has agreed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club after leaving Panathinaikos.

He joined the Greek side from the Magpies just over a year ago, having made 39 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions.

Abeid had arrived at St. James' Park from Lens in 2011.
