Newcastle United youngster Lewis Gibson made his international debut this week.

The County Durham-born defender won his first cap for England under-17s in a 3-1 friendly win against Belgium at St. George's Park on Thursday.

Gibson - whose older brother, Liam, is also on the books at St. James' Park - had initially been on standby for the match before being added to the squad. Wearing the number three shirt, he played the full game, starting off at left-back before moving to the centre of defence in the second half.

It's another success for the Club's Little Benton Academy after Adam Armstrong and Jamie Sterry both signed new contracts this week - the latter having made his first Magpies start against Cheltenham on Tuesday night.
