- Daryl Michael Murphy was born in Waterford, Ireland, on 15th March 1983.

- He stands at six feet three inches, or 1.91 metres, tall.

- The 33-year-old's main position is centre forward, though he has also played out wide in the past.

- He began his career as a youngster at Southend United, but couldn't quite make the breakthrough there or at his next club, Luton Town.

- A move back to Ireland with hometown club Waterford United in 2002 kick-started his career, and a glut of goals during his three-year spell at the club attracted the interest of clubs in England.

- After winning the PFAI Young Player of the Year award in 2004, Murphy joined Sunderland in 2005, scoring his first Premier League goal against Tottenham in February 2006.

- During his time at the Stadium of Light, Murphy made 122 appearances, scoring 14 goals and helping the club win promotion from the Championship in 2007.

- After loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town, Murphy joined Celtic on a permanent deal in 2010.

- But after 23 appearances and three goals at Celtic Park, he then headed back to Portman Road, joining Ipswich on two separate season-long loan deals in 2011/12 and 2012/13.

- Murphy joined the Tractor Boys permanently in June 2013, penning a two-year deal, and has scored 50 goals for Ipswich in three campaigns since.

- At the end of the 2014/15 season, he was crowned the Championship's top goalscorer, earning a place in the division's team of the year and also Town's own player of the year award thanks to his 27 goals.

- In total, Murphy has scored 67 goals in 225 appearances for Ipswich.

- He made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland against Ecuador in March 2007.

- Murphy was part of Martin O'Neill's Ireland squad for the European Championships in France earlier this summer.

- To date, he has won 23 caps for his country.
