Young forward Ivan Toney has joined League One side Shrewsbury Town on a half-season loan deal.

Toney, 20, will remain at the New Meadow until Thursday, 5th January 2017.

The former Northampton Town frontman spent two spells on loan at Barnsley last season, where he made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.

While at Oakwell, he made two Wembley appearances as the Tykes won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as well as promotion to the Championship after winning the League One play-off final against Millwall.

Toney won the Under-21 Premier League player of the month award for September 2015, and also played four times for the Magpies first team after his arrival from Sixfields Stadium the previous month, making his debut against his old club in the Capital One Cup and his Premier League bow against Chelsea.

He joins Micky Mellon's Shrews ahead of their EFL Cup tie at home to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.
