Simon Hooper will take charge of Newcastle United's trip to Fulham for their Sky Bet Championship opener on Friday night.

Wiltshire-based whistler Hooper will be refereeing a Magpies match for the first time.

Last season, Hooper began the season in the Premier League, officiating the opening-day clash between Norwich City and Crystal Palace at Carrow Road, which ended in a 3-1 win for the visitors.

He went on to be the man in the middle of a further 41 games over the course of the season, across all four tiers of the English Football League, plus games in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup.

In total, Hooper dished out exactly 100 yellow cards during the 2015/16 campaign, and only two reds.

He will be assisted at Craven Cottage on Friday by Adam Crysell and Robert Hide. David Coote, who refereed Newcastle's 4-1 Capital One Cup win over Northampton Town at St. James' Park in August 2015, will be the fourth official.
