Everything you need to know about the Magpies' new signing Mohamed Diame...

 

- Mohamed Diame was born in Creteil, France, on 14th June, 1987.

- The midfielder stands at just under six feet one inches tall, or 1.84 metres.

- The 29-year-old began his career as a trainee at the famed Clairefontaine academy in France, which also helped to kick off the careers of Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka and one-time Newcastle loanee Louis Saha.

- His professional career began in earnest at RC Lens, where he made 28 appearances during his time at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis between 2003 and 2007.

- From there, Diame moved to Spain, joining CD Linares - but his time at the now-defunct club, who were dissolved in 2009, lasted just one season, during which he made 33 appearances and scored one goal.

- Diame then made the step up to the Segunda Division with Real Vallecano. Again, he only spent a solitary season there, playing 37 games and scoring twice during the 2008/09 campaign.

- His first club in England was Wigan Athletic, who he signed for in the summer of 2009.

- His first goal for the club came in a Premier League game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in February 2010.

- Diame spent three seasons at the DW Stadium, making 103 outings for the Latics, netting seven goals and helping them preserve their Premier League status.

- He penned a three-year deal with West Ham United in the summer of 2012, spending two seasons at Upton Park, amking 79 appearances and scoring another seven goals.

- Diame joins the Magpies from Hull City, who he helped to promotion back to the Premier League last season with the winner against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

- He played 45 times in total in his only full season at the KC Stadium, notching a career-high total of ten goals during 2015/16.

- Despite being born in France, Diame qualifies to represent Senegal at international level through his Dakar-born father.

- Since making his debut for Senegal in 2011, Diame has amassed a total of 28 caps for his country.

- In addition to those caps, Diame also made four appearances for Senegal at the 2012 Olympic Games, having been included in the squad as an overage player.
