Former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has completed a move to Major League Soccer outfit Portland Timbers.

Taylor, 30, left St. James' Park at the end of last season, having made a total of 268 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals in the process.

The centre half spent 12 years in the Magpies' first team after making his debut against Real Mallorca in a UEFA Cup tie back in 2004.

He helped the Club win the Championship and promotion back to the Premier League in 2010, before playing his part as United secured a fifth-place top flight finish two years later.

And now Taylor has linked up with the Timbers, who are managed by Caleb Porter.

He will occupy one of the designated international slots on the Western Conference team's roster, who also currently have former Aston Villa defender Liam Ridgewell and on-loan Leicester City midfielder Jack Barmby in their squad.
