Rafa Benitez has made four changes to his Newcastle United starting line-up for Saturday's home pre-season friendly against Dutch side Vitesse.
Summer signing Grant Hanley starts his first match for the Magpies following his switch from Blackburn Rovers earlier this week, while goalkeeper Matz Sels and midfield pair Jack Colback and Matt Ritchie also come back into the side.
They replace Chancel Mbemba, who misses out as a precaution following a twisted ankle, Karl Darlow, Jonjo Shelvey and Rolando Aarons.
United are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Belgian stopper Sels behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Hanley, captain-for-the-day Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett.
Isaac Hayden and Colback will anchor the hosts' midfield at St. James' Park, with a trio of Vurnon Anita, Ayoze Perez and Ritchie ahead of them.
And they will be tasked with supplying the ammunition for front man Gayle - a summer arrival from Crystal Palace.
Joining Darlow, Shelvey and Aarons on the substitutes' bench are Jamie Sterry, Jesus Gamez, Cheick Tiote, Henri Saivet, Florian Thauvin, Yoan Gouffran, Adam Armstrong and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
