Young Magpies Set For SuperCupNI

Written by Newcastle Utd

We preview Newcastle United Academy's involvement in next week's SuperCupNI - formerly the Milk Cup

Newcastle United are sending an Academy team to compete in next week's SuperCupNI - formerly the Milk Cup -  which kicks off on Monday. The Magpies will play three group matches in the Premier Section of the competition, and KRISTIAN ROSS casts his eye over their opponents...

County Fermanagh

When: Monday, 25th July (7.30pm kick-off)

Where: Showgrounds, Ballymena

The County Fermanagh 2016 Premier side is managed by former Ballinamallard United striker and current Dergview player Darren Higginbotham. Results have been very positive for the Fermanagh under-17 side so far this year, having taken on the likes of County Armagh, Portadown under-18s, Cavan and Monaghan Youth League and Ballinamallard under-20s and recorded very positive results. This year they are captained by Eoin Beacom, whose brother Cathal plays for Ballinamallard United, in the Irish League. Coach Sam Gable is hopeful his side can playing to their potential and enjoy their SuperCupNI experience.

Right to Dream

When: Tuesday, 26th July (7pm kick-off)

Where: Seahaven, Portstewart

Right to Dream are likely to be United's most challenging opponents in the group stage after the African outfit beat Southampton 7-0 to win the competition last year. Right to Dream is an academy-based team, with three locations in Europe, Africa and the United States offering scholarship programmes to young talented Africans. Their programme has produced graduates from all over the world including a host of MLS starlets and two on-loan Manchester City players: Divine Naah and Thomas Agyepong.

Vendee

When: Wednesday, 27th July (3pm)

Where: The Warren, Portstewart

Vendee are another side that Newcastle will be keeping a close eye on, with the French outfit boasting SuperCupNI pedigree. The team from Pays-de-la-Loire were narrowly beaten by a single goal in the final of the 2014 Milk Cup by Manchester United. The region is probably best known for its sailing than its football but having made the Premier Section final just two years ago, they will be a tough side to break down.
