- Jesus Gamez Duarte was born in Fuengirola, Spain, on April 10th, 1985.

- The full back is five feet 11-and-a-half inches tall, or 1.82 metres.

- He began his career at his hometown club, Fuengirola, as a junior.

- After moving to Malaga in 2000, Gamez progressed through the ranks, earning four caps for Spain at under-23 level in 2005.

- He was part of the victorious Spanish under-23 team at the Mediterranean Games in 2005.

- Having established himself in the Malaga 'B' team, Gamez made the step up to the first team in 2005, making his La Liga debut as a substitute against Getafe.

- By the 2007/08 campaign, he had established himself in the Malaga side, making 37 appearances in all competitions as the Albicelestes won promotion back to the Spanish top flight.

- A further 35 games followed in La Liga in 2008/09 as Gamez made sure of his position as Malaga's first choice right back.

- After goalkeeper Francesc Arnau hung up his gloves in 2011, Gamez was appointed captain of Malaga, leading the club into the Champions League at the end of the 2011/12 season thanks to a fourth-place La Liga finish.

- He extended his contract with the club that summer and went on to represent Malaga a total of 256 times.

- In August 2014, Gamez signed for Atletico Madrid for a fee of over £2million.

- In his first season at the Vicente Calderon, he made a total of 21 appearances under manager Diego Simeone, making his Champions League bow for the club in a 1-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen in February 2015.

- He made another 16 appearances for Los Rojiblancos last season as they reached the Champions League final, although Gamez did not feature in their penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid in the final in Milan.
