Everything you need to know about Newcastle United's newest recruit Matz Sels…

 

- Matz Sels was born in Lint, Antwerp Province, in Belgium on 26th February, 1992.

- The goalkeeper stands at six feet two inches tall, or 1.88 metres.

- The 24-year-old began his career with Jupiler Pro League side Lierse, who he joined at the age of seven.

- He made his professional debut as an 18-year-old back in October 2010, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Zulte Waregem.

- Sels went on to make a further 31 appearances for De Pelletiers, all of them coming in the 2012/13 campaign.

- The Belgian custodian has been capped by his country at every level from under-17 to under-21, and was called up to the senior Belgium squad in October 2015 ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Andorra and Israel.

- He moved to fellow top flight Belgian club Gent in January 2014.

- In his two-and-a-half years at the Ghelamco Arena, Sels collected the Jupiler Pro League title in 2014/15.

- He made his European debut for the club in a Champions League clash against Lyon in September 2015, saving a penalty from Alexandre Lacazette in a 1-1 draw.

- Sels kept a total of 18 clean sheets in his 53 appearances for Gent during the season just gone.

- And at the end of the 2015/16 season, Sels won the Professional Goalkeeper of the Year award in Belgium for his exploits in his homeland.
