Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko enjoyed a brief run-out for France as they booked their place in the last eight at Euro 2016 on Sunday - at the expense of a former Magpies star.
The 26-year-old replaced another substitute, Kingsley Coman, in added time at the end of Les Bleus' 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland - for whom Shay Given was an unused substitute - in the last 16 tie in Lyon.
An Antoine Griezmann brace cancelled out Robbie Brady's early penalty to put Didier Deschamps' men through. Another St. James' Park old boy, Yohan Cabaye, didn't make it off the bench for the hosts.
Along with Given, another ex-United player fell at the second round hurdle at the weekend.
Defender Tamas Kadar, who made 18 appearances for Newcastle between 2009 and 2012, played the full 90 minutes, picking up a booking as Hungary were beaten 4-0 by Belgium in Toulouse.
Kadar's side, who were competing in their first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup, were knocked out by goals from Toby Alderweireld, Michy Batshuayi, Eden Hazard and Yannick Carrasco.
