Teenage defender Ben Pollock has left Newcastle and joined League Two side Hartlepool United.

The 18-year-old was not offered a contract at St. James' Park at the end of his two-year scholarship, and linked up with Pools on trial last season.

He has now joined them on a professional contract and manager Craig Hignett told his Club's official website: "We spotted potential in Ben and he did very well during his trial period.

"He's eager to learn all the time and that's something I want from everyone in the squad, so those are the types of characters we will be trying to bring into the club."

Pollock - the son of former Middlesbrough and Manchester City midfielder Jamie - is a ball-playing centre-back who captained the Magpies in the FA Youth Cup last season.

He also played twice for Peter Beardsley's under-21s last term, making his debut against Derby in January.
