Second Wembley Trip For Tyke Toney

Ivan Toney could be set for a second Wembley appearance in as many months after Barnsley reached the League One play-off final

Young forward Ivan Toney could be set to make a second Wembley appearance in as many months after Barnsley booked their place in the League One play-off final on Thursday night.

Paul Heckingbottom's side went into their semi-final second leg tie at Walsall with a 3-0 lead, after an own goal from Jason Demetriou and a Sam Winnall brace gave the Tykes a comfortable lead in the first leg at Oakwell.

And they made sure of their place in the final with a 3-1 win at the Bescot Stadium on Thursday, where goals from Adam Hammill, Ashley Fletcher and Josh Brownhill rendered Jordan Cook's consolation irrelevant and sealed a 6-1 aggregate victory.

On-loan Magpies frontman Toney came on in place of Winnall for the final 20 minutes to help the Tykes book another date in the capital, where they will now face either Millwall or Bradford City at Wembley on Sunday, 29th May with a place in the Championship at stake.

The 20-year-old has already appeared at the home of English football once this season, when he picked up a Johnstone's Paint Trophy winner's medal after entering the fray as a second half substitute in Barnsley's 3-2 win over Oxford United at the start of April.

Toney, who is on loan at Oakwell until the end of the season, has made 20 appearances over two temporary stints with the League One outfit this season, scoring two goals in all competitions.
