Colback Points To The Positives

Jack Colback hopes United's draw with Manchester City proves to be "a crucial point" in their bid for survival

Jack Colback hopes Newcastle United's 1-1 home draw with Manchester City proves to be "a crucial point" in the Club's bid for Barclays Premier League survival.

The Magpies went behind to an early Sergio Aguero header at St. James' Park on Tuesday, only for Vurnon Anita to draw them level before the break.

And Colback believes United are eventually starting to gather momentum going into the final four matches of the 2015/16 campaign.

"It's a good point for us because we always knew it would be a very tough game," the midfielder told nufc.co.uk.

"We were hoping to win but it's a positive result that we can take forward into the remaining games.

"We have to see it as a point gained. Obviously, the goal they scored was unfortunate but City are a top side - they've just beaten Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and they're going well in the Champions League, so it was always going to be difficult.

"They've got some great players as well but we showed a lot of fight and character and I think we definitely deserved a point.

"Vurn scored a great goal. We didn't have too many chances after that but it was quite an open game and we could have possibly nicked it.

"We're creating a bit of momentum now. When you lose it can knock your confidence a bit but a draw keeps things going.

"To get a result is definitely a positive and it could be a crucial point come the end of the season."

With just two games left at St. James' Park, Colback is targeting maximum points for the Magpies but knows they also have to pick up points on the road - starting this weekend at Liverpool.

"With the situation we're in you wouldn't blame the fans for not creating much atmosphere but credit to them, they were fantastic," Colback continued.

"It certainly helps you as a player to find that extra yard and you have an extra desire to reward the fans. We managed to give them a goal but we couldn't quite manage another.

"We've got two games left here against Crystal Palace and Tottenham and we have enough quality to get six points from those two games.

"It we do that we have a good chance of staying up but our sole focus at the moment is Liverpool on Saturday. Hopefully this result gives us confidence to push on and take three points (at Anfield)."
