Loan Watch: Cameron On Target

Written by Newcastle Utd

Kyle Cameron bagged his first Football League goal for York City, but they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool

Kyle Cameron bagged his first Football League goal for York City, but it wasn't enough to prevent them slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool United on Saturday.

Centre half Cameron, who enjoyed a previous loan spell at Workington Reds earlier this season, equalised for the Minstermen at Victoria Park after Nathan Thomas had opened the scoring for Pools.

But the Magpies youngster's header from Luke Summerfield's corner was made to count for nothing after Michael Woods scored a second half winner for Craig Hignett's side.

The result leaves Cameron's York - who didn't include Lubo Satka in their squad - nine points adrift of safety in League Two.

In the Championship, Sammy Ameobi came on for Stuart O'Keefe after 66 minutes of Cardiff City's 0-0 draw at home to QPR, but wasn't able to help Russell Slade's men earn all three points.

Meanwhile, Adam Armstrong's Coventry City picked up their first win in six matches as they beat Millwall 2-1 on Saturday.

Leading goalscorer Armstrong played the full 90 minutes for Tony Mowbray's side but didn't add to his tally of 19 League One goals as strikes from John Fleck and Marcus Tudgay won it for the Sky Blues.

Fellow Magpie Gael Bigirimana, who is also on loan at the Ricoh Arena, was an unused substitute for City.

Forward Ivan Toney started for Barnsley in their 0-0 draw at Burton Albion, but was replaced by Manchester United loanee Ashley Fletcher with just over ten minutes remaining.

Haris Vuckic was an unused substitute in Wigan Athletic's 3-1 League One defeat at Doncaster Rovers, which brought their 20-match unbeaten run to an end.

Another midfielder, Liam Smith, made an appearance off the bench for Blackpool in their 3-0 defeat at Rochdale, coming on as a 62nd-minute replacement for Brad Potts.

In League Two, Carlisle United drew 0-0 at Cambridge United, with both Alex Gilliead and Macaulay Gillesphey playing their part for the Cumbrians.

Gilliead started for Keith Curle's side, but was unable to find an opener for his team, while defender Gillesphey was brought on in place of Jack Stacey at half time as Carlisle picked up a point on the road.

And French duo Remy Cabella and Florian Thauvin were both in action for Marseille in their 2-1 defeat at Monaco on Saturday.

Cabella started the game at the Stade Louis II, where goals from Bernardo Silva and Andrea Raggi put the hosts in command.

The 26-year-old was withdrawn with 13 minutes left with on-loan Sunderland forward Steven Fletcher replacing him, while Thauvin entered the fray as a substitute for Lucas Silva after 67 minutes but despite Michy Batshuayi's late goal, Marseille were beaten.
