Wembley Final For Tyke Toney

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United forward Ivan Toney is among the substitutes for Barnsley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Oxford United on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan at Oakwell until the end of the season, could make an appearance off the bench under the arch for caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom's Tykes as they look to pick up some silverware in the showpiece final.

And the Magpies' football development manager Peter Beardsley - a man with no shortage of Wembley experience - said it would be a day to remember for the former Northampton Town frontman.

"It'll be brilliant for him. He's a great kid, and it'll be such a proud day for his mum and dad and his brothers and sisters. They're a lovely family," he said.

"It's a money-can't-buy thing. I was lucky to play at Wembley a few times, but when he walks out that tunnel, it'll be unbelievable.

"It's great for him and great for us, because we want him to play in big games, and that's certainly going to be a big game."

Highly-rated Toney is now in his second temporary spell at Barnsley this season, having scored twice in eight appearances during a loan stint before Christmas.
