Dean On Duty At Carrow Road

Written by Newcastle Utd

Mike Dean will take charge of Newcastle's Premier League fixture at Norwich City on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Mike Dean will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture at Norwich City on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It is the second time the Wirral whistler has overseen a Magpies' match this term, having previously been the man in the middle of January's dramatic 3-3 home draw against Manchester United.

On that eventful evening at St. James' Park, Dean booked four players including United midfielder Cheick Tiote, and also awarded two penalties - one for either side.

In total during the 2015/16 campaign, he has refereed 32 games across the Barclays Premier League, Championship, League One and FA Cup, issuing 103 yellow cards, nine reds and awarding nine penalties.

Dean, aged 47, began officiating in 1985 and progressed through the ranks to the full referees' list in 1997 and the Select Group of referees for the Premier League in 2000.

He has taken charge of the 2004 Community Shield, the 2008 FA Cup final and the 2011 League Cup final.

On Saturday at Carrow Road, Dean will be assisted by Stuart Burt and Daniel Cook, with Stephen Martin the game's fourth official.
