Loan Watch: Haris Fires Latics To Victory

Haris Vuckic came off the bench to bag the winner for Wigan Athletic as they beat Bradford City 1-0 on Saturday

Haris Vuckic came off the bench to bag a late winner for Wigan Athletic as they beat Bradford City 1-0 on Saturday.

The Slovenian midfielder replaced Sam Morsy on the hour at the DW Stadium and, 20 minutes after coming on, slotted home what proved to be the winner for the League One side.

Meanwhile, in France, another Magpies loanee found the target.

Winger Florian Thauvin started alongside Remy Cabella for Marseille, and the former pulled one back for the hosts on 20 minutes after Rennes had taken an early three-goal lead.

Thauvin was later brought off for ex-Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby as Marseille slipped to a 5-2 defeat at the Stade Velodrome. Cabella, though, lasted the full 90 minutes.

In the Championship, Sammy Ameobi played a big part for Cardiff City as the Bluebirds earned a draw at Reading to keep alive their play-off ambitions.

Ameobi, who came on as a substitute for Craig Noone, made an immediate impact as his run and subsequent shot came back off the Royals' post, allowing Lex Immers to nod in the leveller.

Adam Armstrong played the full game for Coventry City, but the forward couldn't help Tony Mowbray's side beat Swindon Town, who held on for a 0-0 draw at the Ricoh Arena.

The 19-year-old was joined in the Sky Blues' squad by Gael Bigirimana, but the latter didn't make it off the bench in the stalemate, which leaves Coventry two points shy of a League One play-off place.

England Under-20 international Alex Gilliead started for Carlisle United in their 1-1 League Two draw with Wycombe Wanderers at Brunton Park.

The young wideman was brought off just after the hour as Keith Curle sent on Derek Asamoah in search of a winner against the Chairboys, who were reduced to ten men with the dismissal of Marcus Bean shortly afterwards.

Fellow loanee Macaulay Gillesphey wasn't part of the Cumbrians' squad.

Defender Lubo Satka started, and was booked, for York City as their Football League survival hopes were dented by AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

Ben Reeves scored a stunning winner for the Dons to complete the turnaround after York had led through Vadaine Oliver, and the 2-1 loss leaves the Minstermen - for whom fellow centre half Kyle Cameron didn't feature - seven points from safety.

Both Blackpool's Liam Smith and Gateshead's Brendan Pearson were both unused substitutes on Saturday. Smith's side beat Crewe Alexandra 2-1 in League One, while Pearson watched on as the Heed beat Welling United 1-0 away from home.
