Pick Up A Retro Programme On Sunday

Written by Newcastle Utd

New boss Rafa Benitez is the cover star of Sunday's retro matchday programme for the visit of Sunderland

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

The Newcastle United matchday programme has gone retro for the 2015/16 campaign, and the 18th issue will be on sale for Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby fixture against Sunderland (1.30pm kick-off).

Each week, a previous issue from the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s will be given a modern twist, with this weekend's award-winning publication taking its inspiration from October 1949 and a Division One clash between United and the Black Cats.

The original cover features an illustration of St. James' Park with a Magpies player in front, and so for Sunday's issue, local artist Jody Moore has updated the stadium image and added a drawing of new boss Rafa Benitez.

Inside, we speak to the Spanish manager about his first week on Tyneside and the changes he is making to try and pull United out of the Barclays Premier League drop zone.

French midfielder Moussa Sissoko spills the beans from inside the dressing room in Teammates, while we also hear from youngster Sean Longstaff and captain Fabricio Coloccini.

That is a just a snippet of what is inside this week's issue, with an extensive look at Sunday's opponents Sunderland and four pages of quizzes and puzzles for our younger fans also included.

The official matchday programme will be available to purchase around St. James' Park and in the club store at the stadium on Sunday, priced at just £3 for 100 pages.
