Loan Watch: French Duo Earn Draw

French duo Remy Cabella and Florian Thauvin both featured for Marseille against Toulouse on Sunday

In a disappointing weekend for Newcastle United's loanees, French duo Remy Cabella and Florian Thauvin both featured for Marseille as they snatched a 1-1 draw at home to Toulouse on Sunday.

Cabella started the Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Velodrome, playing 87 minutes in front of a 41,080-strong crowd before being replaced by 23-year-old wideman Thauvin.

Somalia's own goal quarter of an hour from time earned the hosts a point after Wissam Ben Yedder's opener, but they remain in the bottom half of the table.

Meanwhile, a last-gasp winner from the penalty spot denied Adam Armstrong's Coventry City the chance to move up into the League One play-off spots this weekend.

Tony Mowbray's side lost 1-0 at home to Rochdale after Ian Henderson's 89th-minute spot kick, with on-loan forward Armstrong - the joint leading scorer in the third tier with 19 goals - helpless to prevent the Sky Blues slipping to a home defeat, despite playing the full game.

Fellow Newcastle man Gael Bigirimana, who is also on loan at the Ricoh Arena until the end of the season, wasn't included in the Coventry squad.

England Under-20 international Alex Gilliead was unable to fire Carlisle United into the League Two play-off places on Saturday as the Cumbrians were beaten 4-1 at home to Northampton Town.

Gilliead, who has scored four goals since joining Keith Curle's side on loan back in September, played the full 90 minutes at Brunton Park as the Cobblers extended their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.

Fellow United loanee Macaulay Gillesphey didn't make it off the bench for Carlisle, despite having bagged his second senior goal in their 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient in midweek.

Also in League Two, young defender Kyle Cameron played the full 90 minutes as 10-man York City suffered a 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Dagenham and Redbridge.

Russ Penn's red card didn't help the visitors' cause at Victoria Road, with the Minstermen remaining in the second relegation place, just two points above Dagenham at the foot of the table.

Another United defender on loan at Bootham Crescent, Lubo Satka, wasn't involved for Jackie McNamara's men.

Winger Sammy Ameobi was an unused substitute for Cardiff City as they won 2-0 away at Bristol City in the Championship thanks to goals from Lex Immers and Stuart O'Keefe, while Slovenian midfielder Haris Vuckic also stayed on the bench for the duration of Wigan Athletic's 1-1 draw at home to Peterborough United in League One.

Liam Smith, who joined Blackpool last week on a temporary deal until the end of the season, was denied a senior debut as he was an unused substitute in the Tangerines' 3-0 loss at Millwall on Saturday, while goalkeeper Brendan Pearson didn't make an appearance despite being named among the substitutes for Gateshead's 3-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers in the National League.
