Macaulay Gillesphey

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Macaulay Gillesphey scored his second senior goal as Carlisle United continued their push for the League Two play-offs on Tuesday night.

The defender, who is on loan at Brunton Park until the end of the season, broke the deadlock in a 2-2 home draw with fellow promotion-chasers Leyton Orient.

With 17 minutes on the clock, Gillesphey stepped up to curl a 20-yard free-kick into the top corner.

Orient, under the management of former Magpie Kevin Nolan, turned the game on its head in the second half, as Jay Simpson and Ollie Palmer both found the back of the net.

But there was still one final twist and, with six minutes remaining Carlisle equalised, with another United loanee heavily involved.

This time it was forward Alex Gilliead, who crossed for Michael Raynes to head home and snatch a point for the Cumbrians.

Gillesphey and Gilliead both played the full 90 minutes at Brunton Park.

At the other end of League Two, York City missed the chance to climb out of the relegation zone as they went down 4-0 at Oxford United.

Defender Kyle Cameron played the full game for the Minstermen, but Lubo Satka was not involved due to an ankle injury.

In League One, Coventry's promotion bid took a hit as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Barnsley.

Forward Adam Armstrong got another 90 minutes under his belt for the Sky Blues but was unable to add to his tally of 19 goals for the season.

Fellow Newcastle loanee Gael Bigirimana was not involved in the Coventry matchday squad.

Finally, Haris Vuckic had to watch from the substitutes' bench as ten-man Wigan Athletic stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games.

The Latics played out a goalless draw at Millwall, despite having Sam Morsy sent off in the first half, but Vuckic was an unused replacement at the New Den.
