Coloccini: "We Did Everything Wrong"

Captain Fabricio Coloccini pulled no punches following Newcastle United's 3-0 defeat at Everton on Wednesday night.

The Argentine centre-back admitted he and his teammates got exactly what they deserved from a miserable night on Merseyside - nothing.

Aaron Lennon's first-half effort and a couple of late Ross Barkley penalties secured all three points for the Toffees, who dominated proceedings at Goodison Park.

And, following the final whistle, an angry Coloccini told nufc.co.uk: "We couldn't keep the ball, we couldn't create and we didn't defend well. We did everything wrong.

"It was very poor all over the pitch, apart from Robbie (Elliot), who kept us in the game. He is the only player who could hold his head high."

"In the first half we were asleep, we didn't start well and went behind. We were better in the second half but as we pushed very high, trying everything we could to look for an equaliser.

It meant they could always hit us on the counter-attack, and that happened with the two penalties."

Wednesday's defeat saw a Magpies debut for January signing Andros Townsend, while deadline day arrival Seydou Doumbia was an unused substitute.

The pair joined Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey as new faces at St. James' Park, and Coloccini is happy with the Club's activity in the transfer window.

"We needed to strengthen the squad and they are very good players who will add quality to the team," continued the defender.

"However, it is important we help them. We cannot expect them to come in and do it all. We have to help them be a success here at Newcastle."
