Teenage goalkeeper Brendan Pearson has joined Gateshead on loan for the second time this season.

The 18-year-old has signed a one-month youth loan deal following an injury to Heed goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald.

Pearson previously joined Gateshead on a 28-day loan in August, where he provided cover for first-choice keeper Sam Russell.

A former Haydon Bridge United player, Pearson - who turns 19 on 1st February - has been with Newcastle for almost ten years and made his under-18s debut in an FA Youth Cup win at Barnsley in December 2013.

He signed an extension to his scholarship last summer and has made four Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearances for the Magpies this season.

Gateshead are currently tenth in the Vanarama National League - formerly the Football Conference - and former Darlington defender Neil Aspin, who took over as manager in November, will be hoping for a play-off push in the second half of the campaign.
