Marriner's The Man At Vicarage Road

Andre Marriner will referee Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture at Watford on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It is the third time the West Midlands-based official has taken charge of a Magpies' match this season, having been the man in the middle of August's 1-0 home defeat against Arsenal, and a 2-0 home victory over Liverpool

On that memorable afternoon on Tyneside, Marriner booked four players, including Papiss Cisse, Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita.

In total this term, the whistler has overseen 18 fixtures across the Premier League, Championship, League One Capital One Cup and Europa League, issuing 67 yellow cards and four reds.

The 45-year-old began refereeing in 1992 when he was asked to stand-in for an official who did not turn up at a local league match, and he progressed through the ranks to become a Football League referee 11 years later.

Marriner's first Premier League appointment came in November 2004 with a 4-0 victory for Charlton Athletic over Norwich City, and he took charge of the 2013 FA Cup final between Manchester City and Wigan at Wembley.

On Saturday at Vicarage Road, Marriner will be assisted by Peter Kirkup and Adam Nunn, with Graham Scott the game's fourth official.
