Swarbrick Takes Charge Of Hammers Clash

Written by Newcastle Utd

Neil Swarbrick will take charge of Saturday's Barclays Premier League home fixture against West Ham

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Neil Swarbrick will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League home fixture against West Ham United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It is the first time the Lancashire-based official has refereed a Magpies' match this season, although he was the man in the middle of two games last term - a home draw with Hull City and a Tyneside defeat at the hands of Swansea.

In total during the 2015/16 campaign Swarbrick has overseen 17 games across the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and Capital One Cup, issuing 61 yellow cards and four reds.

The 50-year-old whistler only took up refereeing at the age of 29, but within six years was promoted to the national list of assistant referees, and four years later was added to the referees list.

Swarbrick's first Premier League appointment came in December 2010, when he was the man in the middle of a goalless draw between Fulham and Sunderland.

On Saturday at St. James' Park he will be assisted by Scott Ledger and John Brooks, with Lee Mason the game's fourth official.
