Pavel Srnicek (1968-2015)

Written by Newcastle Utd

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek has died at the age of 47

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel SrníÄek today (Tuesday, 29th December).

Pavel was taken to hospital last week after suffering a cardiac arrest in his native Czech Republic and had been in an induced coma while tests continued.

Despite the best efforts of his medical team, Pavel was unable to recover and the decision had to be taken to switch off his life support machine with his family at his bedside. Pavel was just 47-years-old.

SrníÄek made 190 appearances for the Magpies over two spells at St. James' Park, between 1991 and 1998, and 2006 and 2007.

The thoughts of everyone at Newcastle United are with Pavel's family, many friends, former colleagues and supporters at this very difficult time.

Supporters wishing to lay flowers at St. James' Park are welcome to do so at the Alder Sweeney Memorial Garden.
