Taylor Eyeing New Year Return

Written by Newcastle Utd

Defender Steven Taylor is hoping to return to action for Newcastle United early in the new year

Steven Taylor is hoping to be back for Newcastle United early in the new year.

The 29-year-old centre-back has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since September.

His last appearance came in August's 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, where he was outstanding alongside Fabricio Coloccini at the heart of the Magpies' defence.

But a return to action may not be too far away for the long-serving Academy product.

"I'm just trying to get myself ready and make sure I don't make any mistakes in the rehab," Taylor told nufc.co.uk this week.

"I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. I'm just trying to keep myself going and not jinx it."

He added: "It's been difficult only being able to watch in recent months, but I think the last two games have been positive.

"The lads now have the confidence and hopefully the momentum to take into Aston Villa and hopefully we can get a few more wins."
