Krul - Rob's Done One Ell Of A Job

Tim Krul believes Rob Elliot's performances have been "amazing" since the Republic of Ireland international got his chance this season

Tim Krul believes Rob Elliot's performances have been "amazing" since the Republic of Ireland international replaced him between the posts for Newcastle.

Dutch ace Krul suffered a ruptured anterior ligament while playing for Holland in October and Elliot has deputised ever since.

The former Charlton shot-stopper has kept three clean sheets in his last five matches and was outstanding in last month's 1-0 win at Bournemouth.

And Krul told nufc.co.uk: "I think he's done great.

"It's never easy just to step in, especially as the team wasn't doing that well.

"We've had some good results now, including his stand-out game against Bournemouth and a clean sheet against Liverpool.

"He didn't have too much to do at the weekend but he looks solid."

Elliot has had to be nursed through some games due to an ongoing thigh problem - and that makes his fine displays all the more impressive according to Krul.

"He's playing with a little niggle and that just shows you what character he has," said Krul.

"They always say goalies are a bit mad, but he has been playing with an injury and I think he's done amazing."
