Steve McClaren wants his Newcastle United side to give the fans something to shout about against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
The Magpies go into the Barclays Premier League fixture on the back of their heaviest home defeat of the season, having lost 3-0 to Leicester City last weekend, but McClaren is determined to put things right against the Eagles.
"We need a response," said the Newcastle boss.
"We're going to get set-backs and bad days at the office but it's how we respond to that and that's the key thing for Saturday's game.
"The players know we will have to show a good attitude and fight for the result - we didn't do that against Leicester and it's something we need to put right."
With both sides looking to bounce back from disappointing defeats, McClaren expects a tense game at Selhurst Park.
"Both teams will be feeling the pressure but it's how we handle it," he continued.
"It will be an interesting game but we need to start showing some consistency. I've been banging on about it for weeks - just when you think we're turning a corner, we take two steps back.
"Palace are a very, very good team, I like the way they play and their organisation. (Alan) Pardew has done a good job since he's been there and they've been going well.
"They're exciting in attack and they've made some very good signings. So the first thing we've got to do is defend well.
"They are usually a strong team at home, I thought they were unlucky on Monday night but Sunderland did a good job against them and we will have to do one this weekend."
