Watson's Delight At Red Devils Double

Under-18s coach Dave Watson was pleased to see his Newcastle United side pick up their first away win of the season after beating Manchester United 2-1 on Monday night.

The Magpies had lost their previous seven Barclays Under-18s Premier League games on the road and hadn't picked up an away point since a stalemate with Stoke City on the opening day of the season.

But it was ninth time lucky as goals from Lewis McNall and Luke Charman meant Watson's youngsters returned to the North-East with all three points for the first time this campaign.

"I'm very happy with the result but our performance was excellent as well," Watson told nufc.co.uk.

"The lads did really well, we had a good first half and we scored two very good goals."

Newcastle opened the scoring when McNall nodded home his tenth goal in as many starts this term before Charman finished a devastating counter-attacking move to seal a league double over the Red Devils.

The Magpies picked up their first win of the season when they beat Man United 3-2 in September and Watson felt his side were good value for their victory once again.

"When you travel to Manchester United at any level you expect it to be tough," he continued.

"There were periods, especially in the second half, where we were under a lot of pressure and had to defend. But we still managed to have some good spells and overall I think we defended very well and were rewarded when we snatched the winner.

"Considering the effort our lads put in, the quality of our defending and the goals we scored, I think our performance was deserving of all three points."
