Watson: 'Our Best Performance'

Under-18s coach Dave Watson was left scratching his head after his United side were beaten at West Brom

Under-18s coach Dave Watson was left scratching his head after his Newcastle United side were beaten 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Magpies created numerous chances in a dominant display but failed to come away with a single point - let alone all three.

However, Watson remains pleased with how United have managed to improve their performances after a poor start to the 2015/16 Barclays Under-18s Premier League season.

"It was another really good performance from our lads," Watson told nufc.co.uk.

"It's the best we've played all season, we bossed the game for long periods and we created some really good chances.

"At the very least we deserved a point out of the game because we played some really good football and we were very unlucky not to get something."

Another positive Watson was able to take from the game was Lewis McNall finding the back of the net once again, to continue his fine goalscoring run this season.

"It was a great finish from Lewis inside the area," Watson admitted.

"It's what he's good at - the ball falls to him and you expect it to go in. He's proved to be an important player for us and I'm sure he'll keep on scoring if we keep creating the chances.

"But we're disappointed not to come away with the result I think our performance merited. They are a strong side and scored a couple of good goals but we should really be looking to win games like this.

"The key difference between the sides was that West Brom had more luck in-front of goal and took their chances. We didn't and it's something we need to put right."
