Cameron - 'Call-Up A Huge Honour'

Teenage defender Kyle Cameron admits his latest international call-up is a "huge honour" - and he is desperate to help Scotland qualify for the UEFA European Under-19 Championships.

The 18-year-old, who can play at left-back or in central defence, was this week named in Scot Gemmill's squad for the Tartan Army's first round qualifiers in the Republic of Ireland.

Scotland will face the hosts, Latvia and Slovenia between Friday, 13th November and Wednesday, 18th November, with the top two teams in the group qualifying for the Elite Round stage next year.

And they go into the games in good form, having picked up a victory over Mexico and draws against Germany and United States in an invitational tournament in Stuttgart earlier this month.

Cameron told nufc.co.uk: "It's always a huge honour for me and I'm really happy to get a call-up to the squad.

"The last time I went away (to Germany), I got the player of the tournament for the team so it was a really good ten days away for me. I was really happy with my performances and the way the team played.

"It's a really big confidence-booster when you get a call-up and the staff and the players are all really upbeat. It gives everyone a lot of confidence when they're playing."

Cameron was part of the Scotland squad which competed in the UEFA European Under-17 Championships in Malta in 2014 and is determined to help the under-19s qualify for next summer's tournament in Germany.

He said: "It would mean a lot to qualify. The last time we went through qualification, we went all the way to the Euros and reached the semi-finals. Hopefully this time we can do the same and match getting to the Euros, and then hopefully push on from there and see where that takes us.

"It's pretty much the same group and the same squad that was there, so everyone is familiar with each other and we all know the targets we've got for the season."

The Scotland under-19s squad for the first round of qualifying for the UEFA European Under-19 Championships is: Robby McCrorie (Rangers), Devlin Mackay (Kilmarnock), Ross McCrorie (Rangers), Kyle Cameron (Newcastle United), Jack Breslin (Celtic), Alex Iacovitti (Nottingham Forest), Zak Jules (Reading), Kieran Tierney (Celtic), Joseph Thomson (Celtic), Ruben Sammut (Chelsea), Mark Hill (Celtic), Frank Ross (Aberdeen), Aidan Nesbitt (Celtic), Liam Burt (Rangers), Ryan Hardie (Rangers), Greg Kiltie (Kilmarnock), Scott Wright (Aberdeen), Oliver Burke (Nottingham Forest).
