Gini: 'It's Two Points Dropped'

Goalscorer Georginio Wijnaldum had mixed emotions following Newcastle United's 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw with Chelsea on Saturday.

With the Magpies already one up thanks to Ayoze Perez's volley, Dutch midfielder Wijnaldum doubled their advantage when he headed home his second goal of the season at the Gallowgate End.

But United were unable to hold on for the victory, as substitutes Ramires and Willian struck late on to secure a share of the spoils for the champions at St. James' Park.

And while almost everyone on Tyneside would have taken a draw before kick-off, the way the game played out disappointed Wijnaldum.

"It's a really good result but I can't be too happy about it because I think it's two points dropped," he told nufc.co.uk.

"If you compare the first half to the second, we dropped off a lot - maybe too much - and we forgot to play football.

"We dominated the first half because we were not scared to play football or put pressure on Chelsea. However, in the second half we didn't do it and gave them the chance to come back into it.

"I'm really sad about the result because if we had just played like the first half, I think we would have won."

Just as his maiden Magpies goal against Southampton did, Wijnaldum's effort against Chelsea came with his head - as he snuck ahead of Cesc Fabregas to nod home a corner.

And the midfielder revealed he was only there following a last-second switch with teammate Moussa Sissoko.

"It wasn't my position to get into the box, because I was supposed to be stood on the edge of the area," continued the former PSV Eindhoven skipper.

"But I knew I can make goals with my head, so I told Moussa to swap with me and for him to stay out.

"Ayo took the corner, I went towards the first post and I was lucky that Mitro didn't head the ball because when he jumped for it, I couldn't see the ball.

"He didn't get a touch and I reacted quickly to put the header in the far post.

"I was happy because it was the second goal for the team, but I just wish we could have stayed strong for the win."
