Heaney Earns Young Lions Call-Up

Newcastle youngster Mackenzie Heaney has been named in the England squad for three UEFA European Under-17s Championships qualifiers this month

Mackenzie Heaney has been named in the England squad for the Young Lions' upcoming UEFA European Under-17s Championship qualifiers.

The Newcastle United youngster, who hails from Walker, has been rewarded after impressing at the FA International Tournament last month.

Steve Cooper's side will travel to Portugal next week to continue their preparations ahead of their opening first round qualification match against San Marino on Tuesday, 29th September.

They then face Armenia two days later before concluding their group with a clash against the host nation on Sunday, 4th October.

The top two in each group will progress to the Elite Round qualifiers in March, where the final spots for next summer's showpiece in Azerbaijan will be determined.

Heaney has won three caps for England's under-17s, scoring once, having previously represented his country at under-16 level.

The England under-17s squad is: Jared Thompson (Chelsea), Nicholas Hayes (Ipswich Town), Jordan Williams (Huddersfield), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Edward Francis (Manchester City), Tolaji Bola (Arsenal), Jaden Brown (Tottenham), Dujon Sterling (Chelsea), Elliot Embleton (Sunderland), Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town), Adam Lewis (Liverpool), Dennis Adeniran (Fulham), Jonathan Leko (West Brom), Samuel Shashoua (Tottenham Hotspur), Niall Ennis (Wolves), Tyrese Campbell (Manchester City), Reiss Nelson (Arsenal), Mackenzie Heaney (Newcastle United).
