Loan Watch: Cabella And Co Triumph

Written by Newcastle Utd

A round-up of the United stars who are out on loan and were in action over the weekend

Remy Cabella helped Marseille to a 4-1 home victory over Bastia on Sunday in Ligue 1.

The French international forward, who is on a season-long loan at the Stade Vélodrome, was handed a starting spot on the left-hand side of a three-man attack, and played the first 65 minutes of the comfortable victory.

Back on home soil, Sammy Ameobi played a starring role as a substitute in Cardiff City's 2-0 Championship triumph over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Academy graduate came off the bench just before the hour mark in South Wales and had an instant impact, finding Anthony Pilkington, who turned and shot in one movement to break the deadlock.

Eight minutes later, Ameobi prodded beyond Huddersfield goalkeeper Jed Steer, allowing teammate Joe Mason to find the back of the empty net from a tight angle.

The result preserved Cardiff's unbeaten start to the season as they stand second in the Championship table.

In League One, striker Adam Armstrong was unable to inspire Coventry City to victory as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Scunthorpe United.

The England Under-19 international, who has five goals to his name already this season, played the full 90 minutes for the Sky Blues at Glanford Park and was booked.

In the same division, Haris Vuckic was withdrawn after 41 minutes of Wigan Athletic's 3-2 loss at Port Vale due to injury. When the forward suffered his knock the Latics were one down - that soon became two, and although they clawed back to level pegging, a last-minute goal settled the match in Vale's favour.

Shane Ferguson was a 69th-minute substitute for Millwall, who won 3-1 away at Crewe Alexandra.

The Northern Ireland international replaced Fred Onyedinma, and the result lifts the Lions to 18th in League One, with seven points from their six fixtures to date.

Finally, in League Two, Freddie Woodman's Crawley Town suffered a 4-0 reverse at Mansfield Town.

Teenage goalkeeper Woodman held firm until just before half-time, and the youngster was then picking the ball out of the back of the net three further times in the second period.
