Head Coach Encouraged By Positive Spirit

Steve McClaren believes that "results will come" based on what he's seen from Newcastle's opening four league matches

Steve McClaren has praised the positive spirit surrounding Newcastle United despite their tricky start to the season.

The Magpies are still without a win in the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League but they will be looking to put an end to that when they visit West Ham on Monday night.

And McClaren believes the attitude demonstrated by the fans in the opening four games has had a positive impact on the Club.

"We can feel it within the Club. We feel we're slowly establishing a platform and hopefully we can start to show what we are all about," said the Newcastle head coach

"It's been a tough start, but there has been enough evidence in the first four games to suggest we're a team that will be difficult to play against.

"We've defended well, shown great spirit and the players have taken that on and I think the fans have appreciated that."

Newcastle are without a goal since the opening weekend and McClaren will be hoping his side can improve that statistic as soon as possible.

"We've played two games with ten men against quality opposition so we weren't going to create a lot of chances in those games," McClaren continued.

"We have Papiss Cissé and Ayoze Pérez who will be looking to prove a point, as all strikers do, and I believe we have enough quality in that position to get goals.

"But we need the breaks. We need to play better football, create more chances, score more goals and the results will come."
