Young Trio Receive England Call-Ups

Written by Newcastle Utd

Alex Gilliead, Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong have all received England call-ups

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

A trio of Newcastle United youngsters have been called up for England at under-19 and under-20 level.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman and forward Adam Armstrong are part of a 20-man Young Lions squad for fixtures against Germany, in Begisch Gladbach (Friday, 4th September), and Croatia, in Zagreb (Monday, 7th September).

Woodman, who is currently getting regular game time in League Two while on loan at Crawley Twon, was part of the national under-19 party last season

But for Armstrong - who scored five goals in his first three appearances of a temporary spell at League One Coventry City - it is a first call-up at under-19 level.

Meanwhile, Alex Gilliead has been named in England's under-20 squad for a fixture against Czech Republic on Monday, 7th September, at Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow.

Forward Gilliead, who is a regular for the Magpies' second string and can be deployed out wide or through the middle, has previously played for the Young Lions at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level.
