United have been drawn at home against Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the Capital One Cup

Newcastle United have been drawn at home against Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

The draw was made on Tuesday night, and has given the Magpies a home tie against the Championship outfit, who beat Oxford United 1-0 in the second round.

Wednesday, who are managed by Carlos Carvalhal, are currently tenth in the second tier, with five points from their four games to date.

The sides met in a pre-season friendly at Hillsborough in the summer of 2014, in which Ayoze Perez scored the only goal of the game.

The tie will be played at St. James' Park in the week commencing Monday, 21st September, and a date for the fixture and ticket details will be announced on nufc.co.uk in due course.
