At St. James' Park

Florian Thauvin will make his full Newcastle United debut as the Magpies face Northampton Town in the second round of the Capital One Cup (7.45pm kick-off).

The French winger arrived six days ago from Marseille and came off the bench in United's goalless draw at Manchester United, and he has now been handed a starting spot as they entertain the Cobblers at St. James' Park.

Thauvin's inclusion is one of nine changes from that top flight fixture at Old Trafford - with the only two players to keep their place being Massadio Haidara and Ayoze Perez.

There are also debuts for Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles, who arrived 12 months ago from Nottingham Forest, before spending the 2014/15 campaign back on loan at the City Ground.

United are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with goalkeeper Darlow behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Lascelles, Mike Williamson and Haidara.

Cheick Tiote and Yoan Gouffran will anchor the hosts' midfield, with a trio of Rolando Aarons, captain-for-the-night Siem de Jong and Thauvin ahead of them.

And they will be tasked with supplying the ammunition for Perez, who starts up top.

On the substitutes' bench there is a place for 19-year-old striker Ivan Toney - a summer addition from Northampton. And he is joined by Aleksandar Mitrovic, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jack Colback, Chancel Mbemba, Paul Dummett and Rob Elliot.
